Visitor information

ARTZUID 2013, the Amsterdam International Sculpture Route, will take place between 24 May and 22 September 2013. Fifty sculptures will be on display along Apollolaan, Minervalaan, Churchilllaan and the Zuidas. The route is free to visit.

The route is easily accessible by public transport via Station Zuid or trams 2, 5, 16, 24 and 25. A walk along all the works will take a good three and a half hours. There is a visitor information centre in front of the Hilton Hotel where the map and catalogue are available and guided tours can be booked. Information boards with maps are situated along the route.

ARTZUID 2013 has developed an audio tour iPhone app, which can be downloaded in various languages from our website from 24 May 2013. The iPhone App also shows pictures of the route, the children’s treasure hunt and the agenda.

Please note that the works are for viewing. Visitors of all ages are asked not to climb on the sculptures. The works are on loan and must be returned undamaged to their owners. ArtZuid is relying on your co-operation.

Education

Register your school or class now for ARTZUID 2013!
Following the success of 2009, 36 primary and secondary schools visited the sculpture route in 2011. This means that we have managed to educate over 15,000 children on public art, Berlage’s urban design and the architecture of the Amsterdam School.

There will again be a special education programme for primary and secondary schools during ARTZUID 2013. Young people don’t automatically appreciate public art. Wandering past the sculptures raises various questions such as what is the sculpture made of, what does it depict, what shapes can you recognise, is the surface rough or smooth, what surroundings has the sculpture been placed in? The walk stimulates the imagination. The students learn to look at a sculpture and become aware of art in public spaces – not just at ARTZUID; they suddenly also start to notice sculptures in other places. The teaching material pays special attention to Berlage’s extraordinary urban planning and the architecture of the Amsterdam School.

Stichting ArtZuid also believes it is important that young people should learn to respect sculpture. They may not climb or write on the objects. The sculptures are there to be looked at and enjoyed and to liberate the imagination. The works must be returned undamaged to their owners after the exhibition.

There are places on the sculpture route for picnics, drawing and taking photos or making films. You can do this with your class or come back later with friends or parents. Visiting ARTZUID is free.
The educational material will be available free of charge in April 2013 to schools which register in 2012. We ask you to fill in an evaluation form. You can register your school or class in advance for ARTZUID 2013 via info@artzuid.nl.

The ArtZuid foundation won a major European heritage prize, the Europa Nostra Award, for education in 2011.
